Low-cost PCB Manufacturing with reliability aims to look at the design or product from a printed circuit board manufacturer's perspective. What this means is that you need to understand, as a designer or a buyer, the true PCB complexity, the number of manufacturing processes & the equipment set required to get the product done with the highest yields at the best possible price. Picking the correct solution or vendor is getting increasingly complex because of the diverse technology mix in any given system. The most cost-effective manufacturing solution is to split up the builds based on technology among two or even three PCB manufacturers for maximum cost and efficiency. This can be challenging if the manufacturing solution isn't appropriately developed and managed in real time for success. Flexible PCB DFM

Today's electronic products in all industries continue to get smaller with demand for enhanced functionality. This leaves no choice for our customers to move into the HDI (High-Density Interconnect) applications using Flex and Rigid-Flex technology. This allows the customer to use thinner materials with smaller geometries while, at the same time, custom fitting to the overall product solution. A few examples of using flexible circuits are in modern wearables, portable electronics, handheld devices, disk drives, and desktop printers. This is also limited to smaller products and more significant applications because of weight, impedance advantages, and improving the loss for high-speed circuits (speeds up to 80 Gig, etc). Tech Driven EMS will help you find a reliable and cost-effective solution whether you are a first-timer or a veteran of flexible printed circuits.

Design for Assembly

The basics of DFA

This has some basic principles, and these are:

•Minimize the part count in the assembly by combining part functions.

•Parts should have self-aligning and self-locating features so they cannot be installed incorrectly.

•Parts should have self-fastening features.

•Parts should not be ‘left-’ or ‘right-handed,’ even if this means adding unused features to the parts.

•Parts should be symmetrical (for easy orientation during assembly) OR very asymmetric for clear identification (for easy detection and orientation).

•Parts should automatically check that all the previous parts are present and located correctly.

•Parts should be designed to reduce the need for re-orientation during assembly.

•Parts should be designed for handling and insertion (both manual and automatic).

•Parts should be designed for easy gripping and transfer in fixtures using registration locations.

•An assembly should have a ‘base’ part into which all other parts are located.

•Parts should be designed to be assembled from the top down onto the ‘base’ part to use gravity rather than fight against it.

•Fastners should be avoided where possible.
